Impact of selected policy measures on Europe's air quality
-
The main objective of the present study is to analyse
and quantify the effects that certain past policy
measures in the road transport and industrial
combustion facilities have had on the magnitude of
air pollutant emissions and subsequent air quality in
Europe. The policies selected are the Euro emission
standards for road vehicles and the EU directives on
Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC)
and large combustion plants (LCP).

Giving Europe more breathing space
-
Air pollution has been one of Europe’s main concerns since the late 1970s. Over the last few decades, the rapid growth in industry and increased reliance on cars and public transport has contributed to a rapid decline in air quality, from smog and acid rain to asthma and other respiratory diseases.

Air pollution: knowledge is essential for tackling it
-
"The positive news is that over the last decades, the situation has improved substantially in terms of exposure to several air pollutants. But these pollutants, where we achieved the most significant reductions are not the ones causing most harm to human health and the environment" says Valentin Foltescu, who works on air quality assessment and data reporting at the EEA. We asked Valentin what the EEA does on air quality and what the latest data says.

EMEP/EEA air pollutant emission inventory guidebook - 2009
-
The EMEP/EEA air pollutant emission inventory guidebook (formerly referred to as the EMEP CORINAIR emission inventory guidebook) provides guidance on estimating emissions from both anthropogenic and natural emission sources. It is designed to facilitate reporting of emission inventories by countries to the UNECE Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution and the EU National Emission Ceilings Directive. The EEA publishes the Guidebook, with the UNECE’s Task Force on Emission Inventories and Projections having responsibility for the technical content of the chapters. A list of corrections and changes made to individual chapters since the 2009 version of the Guidebook was published can be found in the revision logfile.
