The European Commission and the European Environment Agency today published updated information on releases and transfers of pollutants from industrial installations included in the European Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (E-PRTR). E-PRTR is a comprehensive online register which contains information on emissions of pollutants to air, water and land by industrial facilities in 32 European countries. The register includes annual data for 91 substances released from more than 29 870 facilities in 65 economic activities. E-PRTR also provides additional environmental information, such as the amount and types of waste transferred from facilities to waste handlers both inside and outside each country, and maps of certain non-industrial sources of emissions. The new dataset contains information for the year 2010 and updated information for certain countries for the earlier years 2007 – 2009. The full dataset of E-PRTR is hosted by the European Environment Agency (EEA) in its Data Service.
Over the coming months, EEA will perform a number of quality checks on these data received from countries. An updated dataset will be published in October 2012 after corrections are received from countries.
