2011 ETS emissions and auctioning data available in EEA data viewer

20 Apr 2012

Today, the European Environment Agency (EEA) updated its online EU ETS data viewer. The viewer presents data related to the EU Emission Trading Scheme, based on the latest information published by the European Commission on 2 April 2012 and updated on 11 April 2012.

For the first time, the EEA viewer includes information on the annual quantities of allowances auctioned by Member States, in addition to freely allocated allowances. The EEA viewer also offers the possibility to view emission data under a "constant scope", i.e. excluding all emissions from installations that entered or left the EU ETS after 2008 (the beginning of the second trading period). This feature allows for meaningful analysis of emission data over this trading period (2008–2012).

The EEA viewer covers 2011 verified emission data from installations which represent 98% of the total 2010 verified emission data. For those installations, verified emissions in 2011 in the EU ETS were approximately 2% lower than in 2010. However, substantial increases can be observed in installations from Spain and Romania. On a sector level, CO2 emissions from combustion installations (including power generation) decreased by 3 % while those from ceramics and glass production increased by 3%.
