Waste generation and decoupling per capita in the EU-27

This figure shows indexed values of waste generation per capita and gross domestic product (GDP) with year 2010 as a reference year (2010=100%). Production phase shows generation of total waste and waste excluding major mineral wastes. Gross domestic product (GDP) was chosen as a basic indicator of the economic growth as it expresses the total value of goods and services produced in the country (the components of GDP include personal consumption expenditures plus business investment plus government spending plus (exports minus imports)).

EU progress towards the worldwide hydrofluorocarbon consumption phase-down under the Montreal Protocol

This graph shows the EU contribution to the global phase-down of HFCs under the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, which introduces limits to the consumption of HFCs, starting in 2019. HFC, hydrofluorocarbon; Mt, million tonnes. HFCs covered under the Montreal Protocol do not include HFC-161. A countryโ€™s baseline for the Montreal Protocol HFC phase-down is defined as the average HFC consumption during the period 2011-2013, plus 15% of the HCFC baseline in 1989, all expressed in million tonnes (Mt) COโ‚‚ equivalent. As set out in the Montreal Protocol, the HCFC baseline also includes 2.8% of 1989 chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) consumption. The geographical scope of presented HFC consumption data is EU-28 except Croatia for 2007-2008, EU-28 for 2009-2019, EU-27+UK for 2020 and EU-27 from 2021 onwards

EU progress under the hydrofluorocarbon phase-down set out in the EU F-gas Regulation

This graph shows the progress of the HFC phase-down under EU regulation. HFC: hydrofluorocarbons; POM: placed on the market; RACHP: refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump. Data shown for 2021 are preliminary and subject to further validation by the European Commission. Values from 2007 to 2013 are based on the reporting obligations of the old F-gas Regulation (EC) No 842/2006 and are therefore not fully comparable with data from 2014 onwards (based on the obligations of the new F-gas Regulation (EU) No 517/2014). The geographical scope of presented POM data: EU-27 for 2007-2012, EU-28 for 2013-2019, EU-27+UK for 2020 and EU-27 for 2021 (Croatia is included in the entire time series except for the period 2007-2008). The maximum quantities of the EU HFC phase-down shown for 2015-2019 apply to EU-28, for 2020 to EU-27 and UK, and to EU-27 for 2021 onwards.EU-27 maximum quantities for 2021 onwards have been recalculated to reflect the effects of Brexit.

Percentage change in total heatwave exposure of people over 65 years old during the period 2010-2020 compared with 2000-2009 in EEA member and cooperating countries and the United Kingdom

This map shows the percentage change in total heatwave exposure of people over 65 years old for the period 2010-2020 compared to 2000-2009 in EEA member and cooperating countries plus the United Kingdom. The indicator has been calculated by multiplying the number of people aged 65 years and older years by number of heatwaves. Heatwaves are defined as periods of 2 or more days on which both the minimum and maximum temperatures are above the local 95th percentile (defined according to 1986-2005 baseline).

Climatic suitability index values for (90th percentile) in 2008-2009 for 100 European cities

The climatic suitability is an index ranging from 0 to 100. The P90 indicator of the climatic suitability is the 90th percentile value of the index range modelled across the city. The modelling is based on 100m resolution hourly temperature data (based on simulations with the urban climate model UrbClim). From this dataset, the climate suitability has been generated based on annual precipitation and the average temperature in January and during the summer months for the years 2008-2009. The selection of cities comes from the source data. For specific values for individual cities, see the Urban Adaptation Map Viewer.

Air Quality Health Risk Assessments

This data set presents assessment of health risk due to exposure to three main pollutants (PM2.5, NO2 and O3-SOMO35) at NUTS3 and Country levels. In addition, average and population weighted average concentration values are available in the data set for PM10, PM2.5, NO2 and O3 (SOMO35). The calculations are made for years 2005 to 2020. The concentrations data are taken from the ETC/ATNI interpolated maps (ETC/ATNI Eionet Reports 1/2020/ and 1/2021 and references therein). The methodology is as described in ETC/ATNI Eionet Report 10/2021, aggregating at country level.
