The project aims at creating a public web site based on ozone data and air quality information integrated in EEA's spatial infrastructure. The purpose of Ozone web is to inform about ground level ozone in Europe on an hourly basis as well as to provide background information on specific pollutants. Ozone web is planned to be operational by summer 2006.

On July 18th, 2006, the EEA launched its new Internet based service Ozone web.

Ozone web is EEA's first attempt to bring real-time monitoring information to a European level and to the web. Ozone web is a pilot information service within the Neighbourhood project to show real-time environmental information in a spatial context in a web viewer. It is to be considered as a representative initiative for assessing the feasibility of the Neighbourhood project.

Ozone web is a public website based around ozone data and air quality information integrated in EEA’s spatial data infrastructure. It is published within the EEA main site and links back to data providers as well as to national and regional ozone websites, giving easy access to more local information.

The purpose of Ozone web is to inform about ground level ozone in Europe for current and recent situations on an hourly basis as well as to provide background information on specific pollutants.

Either by entering a place name or by clicking on a map of Europe, users are able to follow air quality locally and on a European scale. The web site also includes information on the health implications of the ozone values users are experiencing.

Over the next year the project plans to expand data coverage to other pollutants such as PM10 and PM2.5.
