In Montenegro, the share of renewable energy sources (RESs) in the gross final consumption of energy , which exceeds the goal set by the. A new goal for Montenegro – a 50 % share of energy from – was set at the level of the Energy Community.
While the use of RESs is high, there is a lack of . The , which is harmonised with EU legislation, was adopted in August 2024. It aims to improve the investment framework in this field and implement a framework for the achievement of national goals. The transition to a modern system of incentives based on market premiums will also be enabled, while the current concept of feed-in tariffs will be abandoned, apart from their application to small plants and demonstration projects. The law promotes the concept of electricity prosumers and introduced the concept of energy communities, which can play an important role in the decarbonisation of the energy sector.
The state power company has already achieved significant progress on the implementation of electricity prosumers by carrying out projects that support the installation of photovoltaic systems on roofs.
