See all EU institutions and bodiesThe indicator shows the final consumption of energy by end users for all energy uses.
Total energy consumption in Croatia in 2023 increased by 3.1% compared with the previous year, and from 2018 to 2023 it increased at an average annual rate of 0.7%. The share of renewable energy sources in gross final energy consumption in 2023 was estimated at 28.1% (the same as in 2022). In the breakdown of final energy consumption, industry consumed 17%, transport 35.9% and other sectors 47.1% (of which the household subsector consumed 68%). The consumption of liquid fuels, with 44.8%, dominates the structure of energy sources used in final energy consumption, followed by electricity with 20.3%, renewable sources with 15.2%, natural gas with 14.7%, heat with 3.4%, coal and coke with 1.0% and non-renewable waste with 0.7%.
To meet Croatia’s energy consumption goals, there are a number of measures envisaged in the integrated national energy and climate plan for Croatia in regard to renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, energy security and the internal energy market. By investing in and implementing the measures set out in the national energy and climate plan and the national energy strategy, through the use of EU funds and private investments, we expect that we will achieve these goals.
