Core forest loss, when observed, is predominantly towards natural/seminatural nonforested cover and occurring through shrinkage of core forest patches. Data from Corine Land Cover (CLC) for years 1990 and 2000, hence with same geographical coverage and forest definition as CLC; Results are focused on loss and aggregated at country level (gains not accounted).
