Methodology
Data retrieved from HCMR/EEA ALIEN data base. Percentages were calculated based on the total number of NIS per regional sea for which a pathway could be attributed.
Additional information
Main pathways of introduction are shipping, corridors (i.e. marine and inland), aquaculture, aquarium trade and other. In many cases, it is impossible to identify the introduction pathway. Where more than one pathway of introduction can be attributed, the analysis has considered both modes of introduction. Thus the resulting percentage of introductions per pathway amounts to more than 100 %.
