Greenhouse gas emissions from transport in Europe

The figure shows the trend in the Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the transport sector since 1990 and projections to 2040, at EU level (EU-27). The 2023 values are preliminary estimates reported by Member States.

The values shown include all domestic transport emissions. They do not include international aviation and international maritime transport, nor do they include emissions associated with the production of electricity used for transportation (e.g. trains, tramways, electric vehicles). The 'with existing measures' projections scenario reflects the impacts of existing policies and measures adopted at Union level on future emissions. The scenario 'with additional measures' also includes further planned policies and measures at Union level reported by Member States.
