Deforestation is an urgent and crucial problem for the Copenhagen summit: according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, tropical deforestation is responsible for 20% of global carbon dioxide emissions. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that more than 25 % of global CO2 emissions come from deforestation. The idea of the event is to bridge the gap between private, public and non-profit sectors and facilitate transboundary platforms for action that can help to put a stop to the exploitation of the rain forests.
