This figure shows connectivity of rivers in EEA-39 as defined in "Mapping the world’s free-flowing rivers" (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-019-1111-9). Dams and reservoirs and their up- and downstream propagation of fragmentation and flow regulation are the leading contributors to the loss of river connectivity.

Metadata

Methodology:: We obtained dataset from https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.7688801 (Data is under a CC-BY-4.0 license) and produced a map for EEA 39 area. We color-coded attribute "CSI-FF1". Blue color is for free flowing rivers, CSI_FF1=1. Red color is used for non-free flowing rivers, CSI_FF1=3. The width of the lines is defined by attribute "RIV_ORD": For RIV_ORD <=5, width= 0.46; If (RIV_ORD=6 or RIV_ORD=7) width= 0.26.
