Preliminary data suggests that this trend continues in 2018. Still, final energy consumption increased for all fuel types in the EU between 2016 and 2017. In 2017, the EU's final energy consumption rose for the first time in 7 years above the indicative trajectory set by the EEA to monitor progress towards the 2020 energy efficiency targets. A trend which is expected to continue also in 2018.
