The figure shows the trend in pollutant releases to air in the EU-27 from 2010 to 2020, using 2010 releases as the reference value. In addition, gross value added (GVA) from the industry sector is presented.

GVA, gross value added; NMVOC, non-methane volatile organic compound; NOx, nitrogen oxides; PM10, particulate matter with a diameter of less than 10 μm; SOx, sulphur oxides.
EU-27, the Member States of the EU as of 2021.
GVA is used as a proxy for the economic activity of industry in Europe, accounting for inflation and based on 2010 values.
Germany, Lithuania and Slovakia did not report any data from 2017; Italy and Malta did not report any data for 2020. In these cases, the most recent data available have been used to populate the emissions trend.
