Europe 2016 - The biogeographical regions dataset contains the official delineations used in the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) and for the EMERALD Network set up under the Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats (Bern Convention). Changes in this version: The Pannonian region of Serbia was missing in previous versions and this has been corrected in the 2016 version. Some Arctic islands which do not belong to the European part of Russia and which were erroneously included in previous versions have been removed.
For reporting on state and trends of biodiversity from an ecosystem perspective, information on the association of species and habitat types to ecosystems is required. The database contains those associations based on butterflies, mammal, reptile and amphibian species listed in European Atlases, all species and habitats considered for reporting under Article 17 of the Habitats Directive and all bird species considered for reporting under Article 12 of the Birds Directive. The species and habitat types are linked to the MAES ecosystems types, which are used under Target 2 of the EU 2020 Biodiversity Strategy. This allocation of species and habitat per ecosystem is done for each of the nine terrestrial biogeographical regions (according to the Habitats Directive) and each marine region (according to the Marine Strategy Framework Directive).
Waterbase is the generic name given to the EEA databases on the status and quality of Europes rivers, lakes, groundwater bodies and transitional, coastal and marine waters, and on the quantity of Europes water resources
The European Environment Agency has developed Marine LitterWatch mobile app to collect information on marine litter and strengthen Europe’s knowledge base and thus provide support to European policy making. Marine LitterWatch is a citizen science based app that aims to help fill data gaps in beach litter monitoring.

The grid is based on the recommendation at the 1st European Workshop on Reference Grids in 2003 and later INSPIRE geographical grid systems. For each country three vector polygon grid shape files, 1, 10 and 100 km, are available. The grids cover at least country borders - plus 15km buffer - and, where applicable, marine Exclusive Economic Zones v7.0 - plus 15km buffer - (www.vliz.be/vmdcdata/marbound). Note that the extent of the grid into the marine area does not reflect the extent of the territorial waters.
Interpolated maps showing air quality in Europe. The dataset has been reorganised in order to improve data harmonization among years and to facilitate storage and processing of the interpolated maps for the EEA data services.
Version 1, Jun. 2012 - Ecrins is acronym for European catchments and Rivers network system. It is a geographical information system of the European hydrographical systems with a full topological information. Ecrins is a composite system made from the CCM developed by the JRC, Corine land Cover, WFD reporting elements, etc.
The Natura 2000 Barometer gives an evaluation on the progress made in establishing the Natura 2000 network, both under the Birds and the Habitats Directives. The number and area is calculated using the spatial information provided by the Member States and is published in the Natura 2000 Newsletter.
The European Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (E-PRTR) is a web-based register established by Regulation (EC) No 166/2006 which implements the UNECE PRTR Protocol.
F3v0 - Urban morphological zones (UMZ) are defined by Corine land cover classes considered to contribute to the urban tissue and function
Dominant land cover types are defined by classification of the CORILIS layers into dominant classes
The Elevation breakdown is used to allocate land cover changes into homogeneous areas as function of height, slope and distance to the sea
Complete coastline features for all the countries that produced Corine land cover 2000 and have a coastline, with detailed descriptions on the environment and type of coastal areas
EEA has reprojected the grid used by EMEP for analyses on air emissions (150*150 km2 and 50*50 km2 grids covering Europe)
The Corine biotopes shape files and database is an inventory and location of major nature sites in the Phare countries (Albania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia). The database is part of the Corine biotopes project to enhance reliable and accessible information about vulnerable ecosystems, habitats and species of importance as background information for Community environmental assessment.
The map is made using the global digital elevation model (DEM) derived from GTOPO30. Note that the values in the file are not the original elevation data. The data has been processed to create an image for presentation purposes streching a predefined colour template over the derived values.
The Corine biotopes (Version 2000) database is an inventory of major nature sites
