This figure shows avoided net emissions of greenhouse gases from the waste management sector in EU-27 (minus Cyprus), Norway and Switzerland. More detailed, the figure shows the difference in the net emissions in years 2008 and 2020 scenarios to the base year’s (1995) net emissions
For the graph: 2006 and projected 2030 world use of neodymium, germanium and tantalum. The technologies responsible for the growth in use of these materials by 2030 are indicated in red. For the map: The bars show estimated reserves of rare earth elements, germanium and tantalum.
The bar sizes show, for each country, the number of applicants to register inventions, counted as patent families. A patent family is a set of inter-related applications on the same subject. Statistics based on patent families eliminate double counts (i.e. when the same invention is registered in different patent offices).
As the name suggests, the environmental technology atlas is a map-based tool. The user is presented with a European map and can zoom quickly into the geographical area of interest. This feature is further enhanced through the integration of the atlas with Google Earth, enabling the chosen locations to be shown on top of a satellite image of the area. Searches can also be more highly specified by using thematic filters and keywords, allowing the user for instance to search solely for private companies engaged in waste management technology in Germany and France.
