CO2 emissions performance of car manufacturers in 2011
Starting from 2012, a specific binding CO2 target is calculated for each manufacturer every year based on the average mass of its fleet. For evaluating the progress of manufacturers towards their targets, the EEA is collecting and quality checking data on CO2 emissions from passenger cars registered in all Member States of the European Union since 2010. Using the Member State data, this note provides an overview of the performance of cars manufacturers in meeting their CO2 emissions targets.
Greenhouse gas emission trends and projections in Europe 2009
Tracking progress towards Kyoto targets
Delivery drones and the environment
A technology with uncertain potential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from e-commerce and the logistics industry and concerns over increased noise pollution and threats to wildlife.
Road distance to nearest motorway or major road on base of LAU2-units (municipalities)
Road accessibility in km from the centre of municipalities to the next motorway or major road
Road transport dominates the freight market in most countries
Liechtenstein is not included due to a lack of data.

Share of land freight transport by mode
Percentage share of land freight transport between road and rail transport mode for EU12, EU15 and combined EU27.
Road transport's market share increases strongly in EU-12
Graph showing the percentage split between road and rail freight for EU-12, EU-15 and EU-27
Road transport's share increases strongly in EU-10
Note: Road freight transport is assigned to the country of origin of the transport vehicle in EU statistics rather than to where the vehicles drive
Road transport´s share increases strongly in EU-10
Role of transport in national adaptation strategies and plans
At least 21 EEA member countries have developed national adaptation strategies (NAS) or plans and that such strategies are under development in at least five additional countries (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Italy and Liechtenstein). The transport sector is specifically addressed in most of those strategies and plans with some detail (including countries such as Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland and United Kingdom)

Specific CO2 emissions from road passenger and freight transport in Europe, 1995, 2005 and 2011
The graph shows development of specific CO2 emissions for the road transport mode, by category (passenger cars, vans, two wheelers, buses & coaches, light-duty vehicles, heavy-duty vehicles) in 1995, 2005 and 2011. Data coverage: EEA-32 excluding Iceland and Liechtenstein
Specific CO2 emissions per passenger-km and per mode of transport in Europe, 1995-2011
The graph shows development of specific CO2 emissions, defined as emissions of CO2 per transport unit (passenger-km), by passenger transport mode (road, rail, maritime, air) over the period 1995 to 2011. Data coverage: EEA-32 excluding Iceland and Liechtenstein
Structure of the freight transport activity in the EU 25
Structure of the passenger transport activity in the EU 15 and accessing countries
Transport energy consumption (EEA-32 excluding Iceland and Liechtenstein)
Bar chart showing final energy consumption broken down by different fuel types. Orange line shows total energy consumption for oil derived fuels, dotted red line shows transport target on oil consumption that applies to EU27 (Transport White Paper, 2011).
Real price indices of passenger transport based on a fixed transport product in the EU 25 Member States (2005=100)
Real change in passenger and freight transport prices by mode, relative to average consumer prices (CP00). Data for entire EU-27 are available. However, very low consumer price indices in Romania and Bulgaria prior to their accession distort the weighted average and hence have been excluded.
TERM02 Total GHG emissions from transport
EU-15 refers to 15 old EU Member States prior to May 2004 (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom), EFTA-4 to the four EFTA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland), EU-12 to 12 new EU Member States as of January 2007 (Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia) and CC-1 to the candidate country Turkey.
TERM04 PM10 mean and maximum values of annual averages for traffic and urban background stations
