Marine protected area coverage by regional sea
This map shows the percentage marine protected area (MPA) coverage in Europe's regional seas. It also shows the distance to the Convention on Biological Diversity Aichi target 11 of 10 % coverage. The distance from the network coverage to the coverage target is reported with respect to three different distance buffer zones: 0-1 NM, 1-12 NM and 12 NM - END of national waters (NM = nautical miles, END = outer limit of MPA assessment area).

Estimated High Nature (HNV) presence in Europe
How to read the map: Green areas show likelihood to contain primarily HNV land, on the basis of a stratified selection of CORINE land cover clases per country and environmental zone, and national biodiversity data when available. The values in the map are a proxy for the proportion of HNV in each 1 km2 cell, 2012 update.
European marine regions and the coverage of Natura 2000 sites
Disclaimer: The marine regions and sub‑regions shown in Map 7.1 and used for generating the statistics in Table 7.1 are identical to MSFD marine regions used for WG DIKE (Working Group on Data, Information and Knowledge Exchange) consultation of EU Member States on the 7 November 2011. A final decision regarding the map was not reached before the publication of this report and changes might occur. The map does not represent any official Member State marine boundaries.
