Overall ambition level of national targets for primary and final energy consumption The Member States grouped as 'Other Member States' are those which have a 2020 target on primary energy consumption lower than 20 Mtoe and a 2020 target on final energy consumption lower than 15 Mtoe. These countries are (in decreasing magnitude of 2020 target on primary energy consumption): Denmark, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Ireland, Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Luxembourg, Cyprus, Malta and Croatia. Trends and projections in EU Member States - data viewer The data viewer ‘Trends and projections in EU Member States’ provides key data on the progress of each EU Member State towards its climate and energy targets for 2020. The viewer complements the EEA report ‘Trends and projections in Europe 2016’. The data and methodology underpinning the viewer are described in Annexes 1, 2 and 3 of the report.
National 2013 and 2020 greenhouse gas (GHG) emission limits under the Effort Sharing Decision (ESD), relative to 2005 emissions levels Each bar represents a national target for greenhouse gas emissions which are covered under the Effort Sharing Decision (i.e. not covered under the EU Emissions Trading System). Targets are annual for the period from 2013 until 2020. The graph represents the 2013 and 2020 targets.
National targets for renewable energies Each bar represents a national target for the share of renewable energy sources in gross final energy consumption.
Greenhouse gas trends and projections until 2050 Dotted lines until 2030 represent projected emissions from Member States and the European Commission. In the ‘with existing measures’ scenario, projections from Member States take into account implemented or adopted national measures at the time of the preparation of projections, i.e. by mid-2012. These projections do not cover the full implementation of the 2020 EU Climate and energy package and underlying legislation, which are included in the European Commission's 'with adopted measures' baseline scenario. In the 'with additional measures' scenario, projections take into account the national measures that were at planning stage in Member States at the time of the preparation of projections.

Renewables successfully driving down carbon emissions in Europe Wind, solar, biomass and other renewable energy technologies continued to grow in 2013. New data shows they have been an important driving force in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Europe.
Climate change: investing in low-carbon solutions and adaptation Our climate is changing. We need to adapt to current and expected changes, while maximising our efforts to quickly and sharply reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. And 2015 can be a turning point for global climate policies. Europe and the world must seize the opportunity and allocate sufficient funds to end the carbon dependency of the global economy.
Policies put the EU on track to meet its 2020 climate and energy targets but bigger push needed for 2030 European Union (EU) greenhouse gas emissions fell almost 2 % between 2012 and 2013, putting the EU very close to its 2020 reduction target, according to new analysis from the European Environment Agency (EEA). Approximated EU GHG inventory: proxy GHG estimates for 2013 This report provides proxy estimates of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the European Union (EU) and its Member States for the year 2013, covering the full GHG inventory (all sectors, except Land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF), and all gases). The proxy estimates in this report are based on data reported by Member States to the European Commission under existing EU legislation and on calculations made by the European Environment Agency (EEA). The proxy estimates are not based on complete activity data and should be considered as preliminary until the official inventory submissions are reported to UNFCCC in 2015. The proxy estimates greatly improve the timeliness of information on GHG emissions and are used for analysis of emission trends and progress to EU climate targets.

Trends and projections in Europe 2016
Trends and projections in Europe The EEA’s annual report on Trends and Projections in Europe updates the progress assessments of the EU and European countries towards their climate mitigation and energy targets. It also sets sights forward towards the EU’s 2020 and new 2030 targets on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing renewable energy generation and improving energy efficiency. The assessments in the Trends and Projections in Europe report draw on the most recent data on EU and Member States’ progress to their climate and energy targets. These include: EU’s and Member States’ GHG inventory, Member States’ Effort Sharing datasets, Member States’s GHG projections, Proxy estimates of greenhouse gas emissions in the most recent year.
