Estimated share of agriculture in total nitrogen leaching to surface waters in 1995 The dark green line represents the average share of agriculture in nitrate contamination across nine EU Member States
Annual soil erosion risk by water based on estimates of annual soil loss (aggregated results at NUTS2/3 level) The map is based on The Pan-European Soil Erosion Risk Assessment (PESERA) model, which uses a process-based and spatially distributed model to estimate soil erosion risk by water across Europe
Regional water abstraction rates for agriculture (million m3/year) during 2000 The map illustrates the IRENA 22 sub-indicator that estimates regional water abstraction rates for agriculture, calculated by weighting national reported water abstraction rates by regional irrigable area
Regional map of soil cover (%) by crops 2000 The map illustrate the soil cover by percentage crops in 2000 on the regional European level, showing that in Italy, Denmark, Germany, northern Sweden and Portugal the soil is covered, on average, around 70% of the year
Total EAGGF-Guarantee expenditure by type of rural development measure (2003) TheEAGGF-Guarantee fund provides most but not all EU support for rural development measures
Annual trends in the concentrations of nitrates (mg/l) monitored in groundwater (1993 to 2002) The numbers in brackets indicate the number of groundwater bodies.
Breakdown of area under agri-environment measures by type of action (2002) The data only includes the area under agri-environment contracts signed in 2000, 2001 and 2002 under Regulation (EC) 1257/1999 (equivalent to a total of 22.7 million hectares)
Trend in farmland bird population index from 1980-2002 in EU-11 The population trend before 1990, even if estimated with a statistical model, relies on data from three Member States only (denmark, Sweden and the United Kingdom)
Population trends of agriculture-related butterfly species in prime butterfly areas Denmark and Luxembourg do not retain key butterfly species that rely on agricultural habitats.
Regional map of the area of cultivated grain maize (2000) and the area of irrigated grain maize in France, Greece, Italy and Spain (2000) The collection of actual water use (intensity) trends at the farm level is not feasible and trends in the irrigable area (i.e
Regional share of Natura 2000 habitats that depend on a continuation of extensive farming practices within Natura 2000 sites The map shows that only a few NUTS areas have more than 50% share of targeted agricultural habitats within their Natura 2000 sites
