Publication EEA Signals 2010 - Biodiversity, climate change and you
Signals takes us on a journey, following the course of water from the glaciers of the Alps to the permafrost of the Arctic and the delta of the Ganges. We travel to familiar and far-flung places, looking at how we can rebuild our relationships with the crucial elements of everyday life— water, soil, air — and the animals and plants that make up the tapestry of life on Earth.

Figure PostScript document Erosion rate in the Alps
The Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) was applied to the whole alpine area. The model calculates annual soil loss (t ha-1 yr-1) based on Rainfall Erosivity Factor (MJ mm ha-1 h-1 yr, Soil Erodibility Factor (t ha h ha-1 MJ-1 mm-1, Slope length Factor (dimensionless), Slope Factor (dimensionless), Cover Management Factor (dimensionless), Human Practices aimed at erosion control. The output grid cell is 100

Figure Estimated soil erosion by water in Europe
Calculated by the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE). While the overall patterns of erosion are generally sound, the validation of erosion data can be challenging. The data presented are currently being validated through comparisons with national datasets and expert judgement. In this sense, zooming in on a specific locality can give the impression of a situation that differs from reality. In addition, the model used in this exercise does not consider localised intense precipitation.

Publication EU 2010 Biodiversity Baseline
The EU 2010 Biodiversity Baseline provides facts and figures on the state and trends of the different biodiversity and ecosystem components. It thereby supports the EU in developing the post‑2010 sub‑targets and provides factual data for measuring and monitoring progress in the EU from 2011 to 2020.
