Data Visualization Concentration status for the daily limit values of SO2 for health protection, 2011
Distribution of stations by thresholds of SO2 99.18 percentile concentrations for the year 2011. The chart is based on the 99.18 percentile of the SO2 daily concentrations, corresponding to the 4th highest SO2 concentration when data availability is 100% over the year.

Publication Air quality in Europe - 2014 report
This report presents an overview and analysis of air quality in Europe from 2003 to 2012. It reviews progress towards meeting the requirements of the air quality directives and gives an overview of policies and measures introduced at European level to improve air quality and minimise impacts.

Figure Troff document Percentage of urban population resident in areas where pollutant concentrations are higher than selected limit/target values, 2000-2012 (EU-28)
The rationale for selection of pollutant and corresponding limit/target values for CSI 004 is given in the justification for indicator selection.

Figure Particulate matter (PM10), 2010 - Daily limit value for the protection of human health
In the air quality directive (2008/EC/50), the EU has set two limit values for particulate matter (PM10) for the protection of human health: the PM10 daily mean value may not exceed 50 micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m3) more than 35 times in a year and the PM10 annual mean value may not exceed 40 micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m3). In some areas time extensions have been granted by DG Environment for meeting these limit values. Information about time extensions is provided by DG Environment at: http://ec.europa.eu/environment/air/quality/legislation/time_extensions.htm

Figure Carbon monoxide - 8 hour mean limit value for the protection of human health
In the air quality directive (2008/EC/50), the EU has set a limit value for carbon monoxide (CO) for the protection of human health: the CO maximum daily 8-hour mean values may not exceed 10 milligrams per cubic metre (mg/m3).

Figure Concentration status for the benzene limit value, 2011
The graph is based on the annual mean concentrations of benzene (in μg/m3) for the various types of stations.

Figure Attainment situation for SO2, reference years 2010, 2005, 2001
The graphs are based on the 99.2 percentile of daily mean concentration values corresponding to the 4th highest daily mean; they present the range of concentrations at all station types (in μg/m3) officially reported by the EU Member States and how the concentrations relate to the limit value set by EU legislation (marked by the red line). The diagram indicates the lowest and highest observations, the means and the lower and upper quartiles. The lower quartile splits the lowest 25 % of the data and the upper quartile splits the highest 25 % of the data.
