EEA Signals 2009 - Key environmental issues facing Europe: Signals is published by the European Environment Agency (EEA) at the start of each year and provides snapshot stories on issues of interest both to the environmental policy debate and the wider public for the upcoming year. The eight stories addressed are not exhaustive but have been selected on the basis of their relevance to the current environmental policy debate in Europe. They address priority issues of climate change, nature and biodiversity, the use of natural resources and health.

EEA greenhouse gas - data viewer: The EEA GHG viewer provides easy access and analysis of the data contained in the Annual European Union greenhouse gas inventory 1990 – 2010 and inventory report 2012. The EEA GHG data viewer can show emission trends for the main sectors and allows for comparisons of emissions between different countries and activities.

Energy efficiency in transformation (ENER 011) - Assessment published Apr 2012: In 2009 only 71.6% of the total primary energy consumption in the EU-27 reached the end users. Transformation and distribution (T&D) losses decreased slightly since 1990, from 29.1% in 1990 to 28.4% in 2009. T&D losses were 28.6% in 2008. About 5% represented the energy-sector’s own consumption of energy.

Variation of CO2 emissions from transport (EU-27): The figure shows the variation of CO2 emission from transport, EU-27 level CO2 represent around 99% of the sector’s greenhouse gas emissions. Emissions from international air transport are not included in countries’ emissions (UNFCCC methodology).

Estimated impact of different factors on the reduction in emissions of CO2 from public electricity and heat production between 1990 and 2008, EEA-32: The chart shows the estimated contributions of the various factors that have affected emissions from public electricity and heat production (including public thermal power stations, nuclear power stations, hydro power plants and wind plants).
