Publication Trends and projections in Europe 2013 – Tracking progress towards Europe's climate and energy targets until 2020
This report provide an assessment of the progress of the EU and European countries towards achieving their climate mitigation and energy policy objectives. These targets include international commitments pursuant the KP and the EU 2020 commitment to reduce by 20 % greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to 1990, to create 20 % of energy consumption from renewables and to increase energy efficiency by 20 %. The assessment is based on GHG data for the period 2008–2012, including recent estimates of proxy 2012 GHG emissions, GHG projections until 2020 submitted by Member States in 2013, as well as energy statistics until 2011.

Press Release Climate and energy targets – EU largely on track but mixed picture across Member States
European Union Member States are showing mixed progress towards three climate and energy targets for 2020, even though the EU as a whole could reduce greenhouse gases emissions by 21% in 2020 with the set of national measures already adopted. These findings come from new European Environment Agency (EEA) assessments.

Publication Approximated EU GHG inventory: early estimates for 2012
The objective of this report is to provide approximated estimates of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the EU-15 and EU-28 for the year 2012. The official submission of 2012 data to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will occur in 2014.

Data Octet Stream Fluorinated greenhouse gases (aggregated data)
Aggregated data reported by undertakings on the production, import and export of fluorinated greenhouse gases (HFCs, PFCs and SF6) in the European Union. The European Union Regulation (EC) No 842/2006 on certain fluorinated greenhouse gases (the 'F-Gas Regulation') introduced a requirement for each producer, importer and exporter of more than one tonne of F-gases to report to the European Commission on the quantities produced, imported and exported in each calendar year, including information on the main intended applications of the F-gases quantities reported.

Figure Atmospheric concentration of Carbon Dioxide (ppm)
The figure shows the global atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide up to 2010. The value for 2011 is 390.9 ppm but is not included in the chart to ensure consistency with the other greenhouse gas figures.

Figure Atmospheric concentration of Methane (ppb)
The figure shows the global atmospheric concentration of methane up to 2010.

Figure Observed trends in total global greenhouse concentrations, considering all greenhouse gases (incl. aerosols) for 1970-2010
The figure shows the total global concentration of Kyoto protocol Gases (KPG), gases under the Montreal Protocol (MPG) and non-protocol related gases (NPG). NPGs contribute negatively, as they have an overall cooling effect, whereas the other gases contribute positively. The threshold concentration range is based on a 50% probability of exceeding 2 degree Celsius temperature increase, given different models and scenarios.

Figure Contribution of the different GHGs to the overall greenhouse gas concentration in 1950, 1990 and 2010
Contribution of the different GHGs as included in the Kyoto and Montreal protocol to the overall greenhouse gas concentration in 1950, 1990 and 2010.

Press Release EU greenhouse gases in 2011: more countries on track to meet Kyoto targets, emissions fall 2.5 %
Emissions of greenhouse gases in the European Union (EU) fell on average by 2.5 % from 2010 to 2011, although several countries increased emissions. Almost all European countries are individually on track towards their commitments under the Kyoto Protocol compared to last year, according to two reports published today by the European Environment Agency (EEA).
