Across the EU-15 the average milk yield increased between 1990 and 2000. Figure 3.6 provides a picture of the regional distribution of these increases by FADN HARM regions. At the national level the strongest increases occurred in Portugal, Spain, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and Greece. Trends can only be shown for FADN regions with at least 15 sample farms. Milk production potential in the EU-15 increases from south to north due to natural conditions (length of grazing season, rainfall and temperature patterns).
