Additional information

Background concentration of nitrate in groundwater is 10 mg/l NO3. The drinking water maximum admissible concentration for nitrate is 50 mg/l NO3 (Council Directive 98/83/EC on the quality of water intended for human consumption). Only stations with time series consisting of minimum seven years are included. The number of stations included per country is given in parantheses. Eastern Europe: BG (63), EE (5), HU (18), LT (7), LV (2), PL (3), SK (10). Northern Europe: FI (38), NO (1), SE (3). Western Europe: AT (14), BE (25), DE (9), DK (3), GB (29), IE (3), LI (1), NL (9).
