Ongoing feasibility study by MeHSIP-PPIF. The Al-Ghadir WWTP was put in operation in 1998 with a cost of approximately 7.5 M Euros. Scope of the project was to protect the shallow coastal zone of Al-Ghadir from sewage discharges, thus reducing health risk and protecting the marine flora and fauna. The expected impact of this project includes: (i) improve quality of coastal waters; (ii) improve quality of life for estimated 1 million people (25% of Lebanese population, projected 1.8 Million PE); and (iii) reduce pollution and environmental stress on the Mediterranean.
