Percentage of population exposed to noise within and outside mountain areas in Austria due to major roads and major railways with more than 6 mio vehicles or 60 000 train passages per year (excluding Vienna)

The estimation of the distribution of population exposed to noise inside and outside mountain areas due to major roads and major railways both outside agglomerations, has been done calculating the theoretical number of people exposed (based on the Population Grid at 100 m resolution provided by the Joint Research Centre (version 5)) inside the noise contour maps per Lden and per Lnight, adjusting the total number of people exposed to what has been reported by Austria. The distinction between mountain areas for Austria to determine the difference on exposure inside and outside mountain areas that can be observed in the figure is the one applied by the European Environment Agency.
