Methodology:: In its database on 'Patents by technology' the OECD identifies 9 primary groups of technology based patent classifications one of which is defined as Selected environment-related technologies. Data for the primary area Selected environment-related technologies was downloaded along with data for Total patents (including all primary classifications). The numbers of patents under the broad environment-related category has been divided by the total number of patents and multiplied by 100 to give a percentage share.
