The sea region delineation is according to the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) Article 4. As the catchment area of the North-east Atlantic Ocean region is very big, the sub-region level is used, i.e. the Greater North Sea incl. the Kattegat and the English Channel, while other subregions of the North-east Atlantic Ocean are merged into the Atlantic Ocean region. French bathing waters in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean catchment area are also included in the Atlantic Ocean region. One Finnish bathing water in the Barents Sea catchment area and French bathing waters in the Indian Ocean catchment area are not included in regional statistics.
