Observations are from SeaWiFS satellite. The concentration scale (µg/l) is valid only for oceanic waters and over-estimates the chlorophyll concentrations in coastal seas and the entire Baltic Sea to a large and variable degree, as a result of high concentrations of coloured dissolved organic material (yellow substance).
