Generation of nuclear wastes: spent fuel arisings
Figures from 1999 to 2010 based on 5 yearly OECD projections. Austria, Denmark, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal have no nuclear generation. Italy phased out commercial nuclear power in 1987. The vast majority of highly radioactive waste is made up of spent fuel and of wastes from reprocessing spent fuel. Some countries reprocess spent fuel.
