The total generation of waste in the EU-27, Croatia, FYR Of Macedonia, Norway and Turkey divided into 7 different categories. The figure shows that nearly two thirds of all waste in 2008 was mineral waste, mainly from mining, quarrying, construction and demolition.

Methodology:: Data for total waste has been extracted from the Eurostat data centre on waste in tonnes for all European countries where data was available from this source. The category 'other' has been calculated as the difference between the total waste generated minus the specified categories and consists thus of different waste types. Tonnes have then been transformed into percentage of the total.
