Data
Shapefile extracted from the UMZ1990_F2v0 geodatabase
For the creation of UMZ1990, the procedual steps have been exactly the same as the ones described in the methodology pdf for UMZ2000 (UMZ2000_F1v0_Methodology). The reason why is that the second version of the UMZ1990 dataset was created at the same time as the UMZ2000 dataset
The land cover classes are: 111 Continuous urban fabric 112 Discontinuous urban fabric 121 Industrial or commercial units 141 Green urban areas 123 (Port areas), 124 (Airports) and 142 (Sport and leisure facilities), are also considered if they are neighbours to the core classes or to one of them touching the core classes: Enlarged core classes 122 (Road and rail networks) and 511 (Water courses), when neighbours to the enlarged core classes, cut by 300m buffer Forest & scrub (311,312,313,322,323,324), when they are completely within the core classes The geometric as well as the thematic quality is improved in this version of the UMZ1990 as it is build on a improved version of the CLC data. These improvements took place during the updating programme 2000-2004. For more information, see http://terrestrial.eionet.europa.eu/CLC2000 See the Corine land cover 1990 brochure.
