Additional information

  • The EU emission trading system (ETS) is one of the main and most prominent measures introduced by the EU to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and reach its target under the Kyoto Protocol. The main source of information on the system at EU level is the Community Independent Transaction Log (CITL). The CITL is a central transaction log, run by the European Commission, which checks and records all transactions taking place within the trading system.
  • This version of the viewer is based on data contained in the CITL on March 2009 for the reporting years 2005 and 2006, 11 May 2009 for the reporting year 2007 and data as of 17 May 2010 for the reporting year 2008 and 2009 for surrendered allowances, CER and ERU. Verified emissions and allocated allowances for the years 2008 to 2010 are based on data published on 7th of April 2011. As data for 2010 is not complete, the EEA CITL data viewer undergoes an update towards mid of May 2011, containing also surrendered allowances for the year 2010.
  • The recorded verified emissions for 2010 are considered complete or nearly complete for 21 countries (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom). Verified emissions of Latvia, Romania and Slovakia are approximately 94-97% complete. Data for Bulgaria (64%) is not complete enough for analyses. The overall completeness of the data for year 2010 is around 95%.
