Interactive data viewers
The list of projects is drawn from an unpublished report prepared for the EEA by members of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). Some more examples were added as a result of a questionnaire sent to all partners of the European Topic Centre on Biological Diversity (ETC/BD). An EIONET consultation provided more information that was further enlarged by ETC/BD partner European Centre for Nature Conservation (ECNC).
This data visualisation shows the number of released data envelopes via Reportnet (Eionet's data flow reporting system). It updates automatically by querying Content Registry.

Tool for exploring up-to-date unvalidated data on ground level ozone
This database contains a number of policies and measures (PAM) implemented or planned by European countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Most of these PAMs have been reported to the European Commission, the United Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) or the EEA. The search engine gives access to detailed information for each of these PAMs including, in some cases, the expected reductions in greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the implementation of these PAMs, as estimated by countries.
What is the surface covered by forests in Europe? Has this surface increased or decreased between 1990 and 2000? Which of the European countries has got the major increase of artificial surfaces in its coastal area between 1990 and 2000?
The NEC Directive covers four main air pollutants: sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), non-methane volatile organic compounds (NMVOCs) and ammonia (NH3). These pollutants can cause respiratory problems, contribute to the acidification of soil and surface water, and damage vegetation.
The EU ETS data viewer provides an easy access to emission trading data contained in the European Union Transaction Log (EUTL). The EUTL is a central transaction log, run by the European Commission, which checks and records all transactions taking place within the trading system. The EU ETS data viewer provides aggregated data by country, by sector and by year on the verified emissions, allowances and surrendered units of the more than 12 000 installations covered by the EU emission trading system.
The air pollutant emissions data viewer (NEC Directive) provides access of the data contained in the NEC Directive status report 2012.
The air pollutant emissions data viewer (LRTAP Convention) provides access of the data contained in the EU emission inventory report 1990-2011 under the UNECE Convention on LRTAP.
Fluorinated greenhouse gases (f-gases) covered by the UNFCCC’s Kyoto Protocol comprise hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs) and sulphur hexafluoride (SF6). The graphs present the quantities of f-gases reported under different type of activities for years 2007-2011, based on the information submitted by undertakings under Regulation (EC) No 842/2006 (F-Gas Regulation). In cases where less than three companies have reported for the particular year on the specific type of gases, or where there is a lack of detailed information, the aggregated quantities are provided in the 'Unspecified mix of f-gases' totals.
The EEA GHG viewer provides easy access and analysis of the data contained in the Annual European Union greenhouse gas inventory 1990 – 2011 and inventory report 2013. The EEA GHG data viewer can show emission trends for the main sectors and allows for comparisons of emissions between different countries and activities.
