Emission trends of non-methane volatile organic compounds (EEA member countries, EU-27 Member States)
-
This chart shows past emission trends of NMVOCs in the EEA-32 and EU-27 group of countries. In addition - for the EU-27 - the 2010 emission ceiling and aggregated projections reported by Member States are shown.

Final energy consumption by sector in the EU-27, 1990-2008
-
Between 1990 and 2008, final energy consumption in transport increased by 33.7 % at an average annual rate of 1.7 %. In 2008, the share of transport in final energy consumption was 32.0%. Household final energy consumption increased by 4.3 % from 2007 to 2008, partially due to a very cold winter across Europe and the refilling of the fuel stock as well as poor energy efficiency improvements. In 2008, the share of household consumption in total final energy consumption was 25.3%. In 2008, the share of service sector in final energy consumption was 11.8%. In 2008, the share of industry in final energy consumption was 27.2%

Renewable gross final energy consumption (ENER 028) - Assessment published Aug 2011
-
In
2008, the share of renewable energy in final gross energy consumption (with
normalised hydro and wind) [1] in the EU-27 was 10.4 % (up from 6% in 1990, 7.6
% in 2000), representing half of the 20 % target set in the EU directive on
renewable energy for 2020. Renewable energies represented in 2008, 11.8% of
total final heat consumption (up from 6.3% in 1990, 9% in 2000), 17% of
electricity consumption (up from 12% in 1990, 13.8% in 2000) and 3.4% of
transport fuels consumption (up from 0.02% in 1993) [2]
[1] Gross final consumption of energy is defined in Directive 2009/28/EC on renewable sources as energy
commodities delivered for energy purposes to final consumers (industry,
transport, households, services, agriculture, forestry and fisheries),
including the consumption of electricity and heat by the energy branch for
electricity and heat production and including losses of electricity and heat in
distribution and transmission.
[2] The gross final consumption of energy from renewable sources is
calculated as the sum of: (a) gross final consumption of electricity from
renewable energy sources; (b) gross final consumption of energy from renewable
sources for heating and cooling; and (c) final consumption of energy from
renewable sources in transport.

Energy efficiency in transformation (ENER 011) - Assessment published Apr 2012
-
In 2009 only 71.6% of the total primary energy consumption in the EU-27 reached the end users. Transformation and distribution (T&D) losses decreased slightly since 1990, from 29.1% in 1990 to 28.4% in 2009. T&D losses were 28.6% in 2008. About 5% represented the energy-sector’s own consumption of energy.

Electricity production by fuel (ENER 027) - Assessment published Aug 2011
-
Fossil
fuels and nuclear energy continue to dominate the fuel mix for electricity
production in EU-27. In 2008, the share in total gross electricity production of
the electricity generated from fossil fuels was 52.9 %, and the share of
nuclear 27.3 %. The electricity generated from renewable sources was 18.0% (in
2008). The total electricity production increased significantly by 31.3 % since
1990, thus offsetting some of the emissions reductions achieved due to fuel
switching from solid fuels to natural gas.

Share of renewable electricity in gross electricity consumption (%) 1990-2008 and 2010 indicative targets
-
The data for World, Africa, Middle East, China, India, Russia and the United States are extracted from the EIA-database from the US DOE. These figures slightly differ from the Eurostat data.
The renewable electricity share in Norway is above 100% in some years because a part of the (renewable) electricity generated domestically is exported to other countries. No 2007-2008 data available for Iceland, 2006 data were used
