NFP/Eionet Coordinator – Temporary Agent (AD 7)

The European Environment Agency is organizing an open competition with a view to recruiting a temporary agent to work in the area below. The competition is organised under the assumption that the post, assigned to this area of work, will become vacant.

Job description:

Coordination and leadership of the NFP/Eionet group and general EEA interaction with Eionet. Ensuring the development and evolution of the Shared European Environmental Information System (SEEIS) in the frame of NFP/Eionet.
Part of the team on EEA governance and networking, covering also the Management Board / Bureau and the scientific committee.

Functions and duties:

  • To coordinate and lead the annual activities for the Eionet group, with particular attention to the Eionet coordination, covering the NFPs, NRCs and ETCs activities, and the Eionet workshops, involving the EEA member countries and collaborating countries.
  • To consolidate networking links and communication exchange with EEA member countries through the NFP working group, country visits and joint events.
  • To ensure continuous information flow to the network on key EEA activities, by cooperating with all programmes and relevant groups across the Agency.
  • To closely follow the projects requiring NFP/Eionet involvement and lead the coordination of EEA input in these. Coordination of the Eionet engagement in reviewing scientific aspects of key EEA outputs.
  • To ensure connection between the NFP/Eionet and other recognised networks in Europe, such as the EPA, leading economists, etc.
  • To ensure that the planning and outcome of the NFP/Eionet group meetings are linked to the secretariat of the management board and scientific committee. To be part of the team on the EEA governance, covering the Management Board/Bureau and the scientific committee activities.
  • To coordinate the EEA Country Desk Officers.
  • To provide assistance to EEA enlargement and country visits as needed.

Eligibility:

Education certificates and diplomas:

  • A university degree relevant to the field concerned attested by a diploma

Range of professional experience and skills:

  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant professional experience
  • Combination of scientific background and insight into political processes
  • Awareness of a range of environmental topics and cross-cutting issues
  • Good communication skills
  • Knowledge of English is essential.

FORMAL REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates applying must satisfy the following general requirements on the closing date for the submission of applications:

  • Citizenship of one of the Member Countries of the EEA (Member States of the European Union plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Bulgaria, Romania, Switzerland and Turkey);
  • Enjoy full rights as a citizen;
  • Have fulfilled any obligation imposed by law concerning military service;
  • Meet the educational requirements as described under “Eligibility”.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the EEA Member Countries and a satisfactory knowledge of a second of these languages.

Contractual conditions:

The successful candidate will be offered a Temporary Agent contract in accordance with the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants of the European Communities. The duration of the contract will be for an initial time period of four years, renewable.

Selection procedure:

Eligibility of candidates will be assessed according to compliance with all formal requirements by the closing date for the submission of applications.

Eligible candidates whose application shows evidence of all required competences and skills may be invited for an interview, which will be held for the most part in English.

Prior to contract signature, the successful candidate will be asked:

  • to provide original or certified copies of all relevant documents proving his/her eligibility, including an extract from his/her police file;
  • to undergo a compulsory medical examination to establish that he/she meets the standard of physical fitness necessary to perform the duties involved.

Request for review:

Candidates who have not been admitted to the selection procedure will be notified by letter. The candidate may ask to have her/his application reconsidered by a sending a request for review to the Chairman of the Selection Committee at the address indicated on the letter within 21 calendar days from the date of the letter of notification.
