Editor – Contract Agent (Function Group IV)


Purpose of post:


To support the structuring and drafting of manuscripts for translation and publication, and to finalise them in dialogue with EEA project managers. To coordinate the work of external editors and internal and external proofreaders. To improve knowledge of EU/EEA writing style among EEA staff and external manuscript providers.

Eligibility


  • Education certificates and diplomas:
    • A university degree relevant to the field concerned attested by a diploma;
  • Range of professional experience and skills:
    • A minimum of three years' professional experience in editing;
    • Excellent English language skills (good writer);
    • Good general knowledge of the environment field and its terminology;
    • Analytical, interpretative and rhetorical skills (ability to rewrite and edit a text as a collection of ideas to match with the world view of the target audience);
    • Experience in editing manuscripts prepared by several contributors so that a consistent writing style is maintained throughout the document;
    • Experience of working in an international environment and of writing in English for a non English mother tongue audience;
    • Knowledge of the main principles of copyright;
    • Computer user skills (MS Office)



GENERAL CONDITIONS:

Candidates applying must satisfy the following general requirements on the closing date for the submission of applications:

  • Citizenship of one of the Member Countries of the EEA (Member States of the European Union plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey);
  • Enjoy full rights as a citizen;
  • Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by law concerning military service;
  • Meet the educational requirements as described under "Eligibility: Education certificates and diplomas";
  • Have a thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the EEA Member Countries and a satisfactory knowledge of a second of these languages. Good knowledge of English would be an asset.

Selection:

The procedure comprises a pre-selection of the best qualified candidates based on the eligibility criteria in relation to the post to be filled. Pre-selected candidates will be called for an interview. The interview will be held for the most part in English.

Pre-selected candidates for the editor post will be asked to undergo a test. The test will consist of the editing of short texts within a specified time.

Recruitment:

The selected candidate shall before recruitment undergo a compulsory medical examination to establish that he/she meets the standard of physical fitness necessary to perform the duties involved. The selected candidate will be employed for a limited time period not exceeding four years.
