The European Environment Agency is organising a selection procedure with a view to drawing up a reserve list for:


Reference no. EEA/B/2002/6 - Project Officers – Temporary Agents (B5/B4)


Job description:


Project officers will be requested to provide secretariat and/or technical support for EEA management and EEA scientific committee, work programme development and environmental/sectorial work.


Tasks:


The tasks to be carried out by the project officers will include combinations of the following:

  • Secretariat of EEA management board, bureau and management team;
  • Secretariat of EEA scientific committee;
  • Provide support to the preparation of EEA work programme;
  • Provide support to project managers in developing and implementing projects (e.g. editing, processing statistical data, maintaining and providing access to databases, networking);
  • Preparation and assistance in the organisation and implementation of meetings and conferences;
  • Coordination and preparation of material for reports and presentations;
  • Work with the EEA Intranet, Extranet and web-site (management of documents, maintaining membership of password protected sites);
  • Conduct short presentations.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Advanced secondary education or equivalent experience;
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience relevant to one of the first four tasks in the bulleted list above;
  • Knowledge of EU institutions and processes;
  • Experience in managing meetings, seminars and conferences;
  • Good knowledge and use of IT to perform tasks;
  • Initiative and ability to manage own time and resources;
  • Service-mindedness, tactfulness, and ability to work in multi-cultural teams.

Eligibility:


Candidates applying must satisfy the following general requirements on the closing date for the submission of applications:

  • Be a national of one of the Member Countries of the EEA (Member States of the European Union plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Cyprus, Malta, and Turkey). The recruitment of nationals from new membership countries will be subject to prior ratification of the EEA membership agreement;
  • Meet the educational requirements as described under “Qualifications and experience”;
  • Enjoy full rights as a citizen;
  • Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by law concerning military service;
  • Meet the character requirements for the duties involved;
  • Have a thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the EEA Member Countries languages and a satisfactory knowledge of a second of these languages. Good knowledge of English would be an asset.
