VACANCY NOTICE 6-2002


The European Environment Agency is organising a selection procedure with a view to filling the following vacancy:


Reference no. EEA/A/2002/4 – Project Manager – Chemicals and Environment Temporary Agent (A7/A6)


Job description:


To develop and coordinate work on the fate and impacts of releases of hazardous substances from human activities to the environment with particular emphasis on human and ecosystem health, and to support policy making and implementation in this field. To assist in the coordination of data gathering, analysis and assessment of environmental problems at the European level, related to hazardous substances and to feed into EEA thematic and regular reporting.


Tasks:

  • Establish framework for data gathering and flow of data to the EEA on hazardous substances in the environment;
  • Coordinate assessment of these data in relation to environmental pressures and human health/ ecosystem impacts;
  • Compile overview of European initiatives to use early warnings to detect environmental problems with the view to propose EEA strategy;
  • Coordinate production of inputs for EEA thematic and regular reporting and support to EU policy-making and implementation in this field.

Qualifications and experience:

  • University degree relevant to the field concerned;
  • At least three years’ professional experience relating to the field covered by the description of the tasks.

Eligibility:


Candidates applying must satisfy the following general requirements on the closing date for the submission of applications:

  • Be a national of one of the Member Countries of the EEA (Member States of the European Union plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Cyprus, Malta, and Turkey). The recruitment of nationals from new membership countries will be subject to prior ratification of the EEA membership agreement;
  • Meet the educational requirements as described under “Qualifications and experience”;
  • Enjoy full rights as a citizen;
  • Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by law concerning military service;
  • Meet the character requirements for the duties involved;
  • Have a thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the EEA Member Countries languages and a satisfactory knowledge of a second of these languages. Good knowledge of English would be an asset.

  • it is sent no later than the closing date specified (date of postmark serves as proof);
  • it is filled in legibly, signed and dated;
  • photocopies of relevant diplomas are attached;
  • a photocopy of a document giving proof of nationality (e.g. passport) is attached;
  • the reference number of the post is indicated both in the form and on the envelope.
