Data Waterbase - Lakes
Waterbase is the generic name given to the EEA's databases on the status and quality of Europe's rivers, lakes, groundwater bodies and transitional, coastal and marine waters, and on the quantity of Europe's water resources

Data File QA documentation
Quality control documentation briefly presents ETC/ICM and EEA activities focused on quality of Waterbase-Lakes dataset and results of these activities. In addition warning is given on the use of certain records for analytical purposes.

Press Release Troff document Water quality excellent at most of Europe's bathing sites
The water at Europe's beaches, rivers and lakes was generally of high quality in 2013, with 95 % of these sites meeting minimum requirements. Coastal sites performed slightly better than inland bathing waters, the data shows.

Figure Proportion of classified surface water bodies in different RBDs holding less than good ecological status or potential, for rivers and lakes
The figure shows percentage of the total number of classified water bodies.

GIS Map Application Macrophytes in lakes
This map shows the ecological status (i.e. status or potential) of macrophytes in European lakes (i.e. lakes and reservoirs) potentially impacted by eutrophication. The ecological status class of a country's waterbodies (or stations) is assessed by each country according to their national classification system, following the Water Framework Directive. The assessment may be based by one or more samples measured during the year of reporting. The purpose of this map is to show ecological status of individual biological quality elements (BQEs) and the major impact types. In comparison, the map layer "Ecological status or potential of water bodies" in the WFD Surface Water Viewer (http://www.eea.europa.eu/themes/water/interactive/soe-wfd/wfd-surface), displays ecological status or potential based on all BQEs combined, represented by the BQE with the worst class (the "one-out-all-out" principle). Moreover, the maps based on SoE-WISE biological data will be updated yearly, whereas the WFD database will be updated every 6th year.

GIS Map Application Phytoplankton in lakes
This map shows the ecological status (i.e. status or potential) of phytoplankton in European lakes (i.e. lakes and reservoirs) potentially impacted by eutrophication. The ecological status class of a country's waterbodies (or stations) is assessed by each country according to their national classification system, following the Water Framework Directive. The assessment may be based by one or more samples measured during the year of reporting..

GIS Map Application Total phosphorus in lakes
The map shows the mean annual concentrations of total phosphorus (TP) as mg/L TP in European lakes and reservoirs measured at Eionet-Water Lake monitoring stations during 2011. Total phosphorus includes all phosphorus components in lake water: phosphate dissolved organic phosphorus and particulate phosphorus in algal and bacterial cells, as well as in mineral particles (e.g. clay). For most countries the concentration values are based on measurements over the whole year, but for some countries the annual mean actually represents only the growing season (due to ice cover in winter).

Figure Proportion of classified water bodies in different RBDs affected by pollution pressures, for rivers and lakes (left panel) and for coastal and transitional waters (right panel)
The percentage is based on total number of classified water bodies. See the indicator specification for more details.
