What we do: The aim of the EEA is to ensure that decision-makers and the general public are kept informed about the state and outlook of the environment. Our vision is to become recognised as the world’s leading body for the provision of timely, relevant and accessible European environmental data, information, knowledge and assessments.

Who we are: The European Environment Agency (EEA) is an agency of the European Union. Our task is to provide sound, independent information on the environment. We are a major information source for those involved in developing, adopting, implementing and evaluating environmental policy, and also the general public. Currently, the EEA has 32 member countries.

EEA Management Board: The Management Board is the decision making body of the European Environment Agency. The MB decisions include: adoption of the annual and multiannual work programmes, annual reports and other strategic documents, approval of the Agency’s budget, appointment of the Executive Director and the accounting officer, election of Board chair and vice-chairpersons and designation of members of the Scientific Committee.

EEA Scientific Committee: The scientific committee assists the EEA management board and the Executive Director in providing scientific advice and delivering professional opinion on any scientific matter in the areas of work undertaken by the Agency.

Copenhagen Culture Night at the European Environment Agency (2011): Once again on 14 October, starting from 18.00 o’clock in the evening, we are opening our doors to Copenhagen residents – families, environment enthusiasts, students or anyone who is interested in finding out and learning about our environment. We may play the hosts, but this year’s spotlight will be on our buzzing bees and mighty forests. Copenhagen Culture Night is the annual event in Copenhagen, when cultural institutions and lots of other organisations offer a wide range of activities in an open-house setting. It is a unique opportunity for the EEA to welcome Copenhageners and tourists taking part in this event.

Eye On Earth summit, Abu Dhabi 2011: Under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, the Eye on Earth Summit will enable global leaders, innovators and decision-makers to focus on an issue critical to the wise decision-making upon which our planet’s future depends: how to ensure effective access to the world's expanding pool of environmental and societal data by all of those who need it.
