Publication NEC Directive status report 2009
Reporting by the Member States under Directive 2001/81/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 October 2001 on national emission ceilings for certain atmospheric pollutants.

Figure Emissions by sector of nitrogen oxides - 2008 (EEA member countries)
The contribution made by different sectors to emissions of nitrogen oxides.

Publication Assessment of ground-level ozone in EEA member countries, with a focus on long-term trends
European countries have significantly reduced anthropogenic emissions of ozone precursor gases since 1990. In general, however, ambient air measurements in urban and rural areas of Europe do not show any downward trends in ground-level ozone. The main purpose of this report is to shed light on possible reasons.

Figure Estimated impact of different factors on the reduction in emissions of NOx from public electricity and heat production between 1990 and 2008, EEA-32
The chart shows the estimated contributions of the various factors that have affected emissions from public electricity and heat production (including public thermal power stations, nuclear power stations, hydro power plants and wind plants).

Figure Emission trends of ozone-precursor pollutants (EEA member countries, EU-27)
This chart shows past emission trends of nitrogen oxides (NOx), non-methane volatile organic compunds (NMVOC), carbon monoxide (CO) and methane (CH4) in the EEA-32 and EU-27 group of countries. In addition - for the EU-27 - the aggregated Member State 2010 emission ceilings for NOx and NMVOC are shown.

Figure Distance-to-target for EEA member countries
The distance-to-target indicator shows how current emissions compare to a linear emission reduction 'target-path' between 2010 emission levels and 2020 Gothenburg emission ceilings for each country. Negative percentage values indicate the current emissions in a country are below the linear target path; positive values show that current emission lie above a linear target path to 2020.

Figure Sector share of nitrogen oxides emissions (EEA member countries)
The contribution made by different sectors to emissions of nitrogen oxides in 2010.

Figure Change in emissions of nitrogen oxides compared with the 2010 NECD and Gothenburg protocol targets (EEA member countries)
Data are for NOx emissions. Gothenburg protocol targets are shown for the non-EU countries (e.g. Switzerland and Norway). Neither Iceland nor Turkey has signed the Gothenburg protocol. Liechtenstein has signed but not yet ratified the Gothenburg protocol. Emission data are not available for Liechtenstein.

Figure Distance-to-target for EEA member countries
Data are for NOx emissions. The 'distance to target' results are shown in green (countries need to do more to be on track to meet their ceiling in 2010) and purple (countries are on track to meet their ceiling in 2010).
