Green week 2012: The 12th edition of Green Week, the biggest annual conference on European environment policy, will take place from 22 to 25 May 2012 in Brussels. This year's theme is "Water".

World Environment Day 2012 – Wellbeing and happiness: our contribution to Rio+20: The Rio+20 conference, to be held in June this year, comes twenty years after the first Earth Summit (the UN Conference on Environment and Development) when Heads of State met in this same city. In order to celebrate this important occasion, and make our own contribution, the EEA is organising an event at our premises on Tuesday 5th June 2012, on World Environment Day.

RIO 2012 — The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development: The objective of the Conference is to secure renewed political commitment for sustainable development, assess the progress to date and the remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits on sustainable development, and address new and emerging challenges

EEA side event: Sharing environmental information in action: The EEA official side-event on 19 June will showcase examples of European progress in the global sharing of environmental information. It will also explain Europe's Shared Environmental Information System (SEIS) and its principles and foundations. The global promotion of access to information was a key element of Principle 10 of the 1992 Rio Declaration.

Rio 2012 is an opportunity to move towards a green economy: In less than two months, world leaders will gather in Rio de Janeiro for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development. It is 20 years since the last Rio conference, and Rio 2012 is an opportunity to assess the progress made toward sustainable development since 1992 and begin building a Green Economy.
