Capacity-building workshop for journalists
Journalists at the national level may not be fully aware of the key environmental challenges in the UNECE region, the “Environment for Europe” process and its role in addressing major environmental challenges and transboundary issues to be discussed at the Seventh “Environment for Europe” Ministerial Conference. Journalists will be able to improve their knowledge and capacity to report effectively on environmental issues. This is particularly pertinent in relation to the green economy as it is an emerging concept. The workshop programme is based on the key Conference reports and products, allowing journalists from the UNECE region to deepen their understanding of key environmental issues that will be discussed by the Conference. It is also building on journalists’ professional skills and knowledge of quality journalism standards in the field of environmental and policy reporting.

Conference on sustainable production and use of biomass for bioenergy in the Baltic Seas region
Several initiatives have been taken to provide overview of the potentials and challenges of sustainable biomass production and use in the Baltic Sea Region. This links closely with the ongoing process of EU criteria for sustainable biomass production. However, most projects have had a national or sectoral approach. In order to tackle the new challenges for a sustainable region, it is necessary to make a cross-sectoral and macro-regional approach to sustainable biomass production and use. This conference will focus on the sustainable production and use of biomass for bioenergy in a cross-sectoral and macro-regional perspective.

Countries and Eionet
The EEA now has 32 member countries and seven cooperating countries. The European environment information and observation network (Eionet) is a partnership network of the EEA and the countries. The EEA is responsible for developing the network and coordinating its activities. To do so, the EEA works closely together with national focal points, typically national environment agencies or environment ministries. They are responsible for coordinating national networks involving many institutions (about 350 in all).
