Figure Annual greenhouse gas emission targets in Europe under the KP (2008–2012) relative to base-year emissions
The final emission levels allocated to the European Union and each Member State were established after completion of the reviews of the initial reports pursuant to Article 8 of the KP in 2008. To account for Denmark's exceptionally low base-year emissions compared to other years, Denmark received five million AAUs from the Union registry for the first commitment period under the KP

Figure Gaps between 2008–2010 GHG emissions and targets for the sectors not covered by the EU ETS (without the use of carbon sinks and flexible mechanisms)
A positive value indicates that average 2008–2010 emissions in the non-ETS sectors were lower than the average annual target, taking into account the effect of allowances attributed to the EU ETS and without use of carbon sinks and Kyoto mechanisms.

Figure text/texmacs Comparison of available emissions units and verified emissions for all 30 countries participating in the EU ETS
The 'change in scope/coverage' concerns the correction from 2005–2007 to 2008–2012. The large corrections for 2005 and 2006 are related to Bulgaria and Romania, which entered the scheme in 2007 only.

Publication Approximated EU GHG inventory: early estimates for 2012
The objective of this report is to provide approximated estimates of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the EU-15 and EU-28 for the year 2012. The official submission of 2012 data to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will occur in 2014.

Figure Observed trends in total greenhouse concentrations, considering all greenhouse gases (incl. aerosols)
The concentrations of the individual GHGs under the Kyoto protocol have reached new levels in 2009. The figure shows the aggregated total of Kyoto protocol Gases (KPG), gases under the Montreal Protocol (MPG) and non-protocol related gases (NPG). NPGs contribute negatively, as they have an overall cooling effect, whereas the other gases contribute positively.
