Counting down to Belgrade

The countdown to the Sixth 'Environment for Europe' Ministerial Conference has started. The conference, taking place from 10–12 October 2007 in Belgrade, Serbia, is organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The launch of the EEA report 'Europe's environment — The fourth assessment' will be a key event on the first day. The report assesses environmental progress in 53 countries — an area with a total population of more than 870 million people.

The Sixth Ministerial Conference: "Environment for Europe" will include the participation of environment ministers and high level government officials from 56 countries of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) region, including Canada and USA. The “Environment for Europe” process is a unique partnership of the member States within the UNECE region, organizations of the United Nations system represented in the region, other intergovernmental organizations, regional environment centers, non-governmental organizations and other major groups that take a part in improving environmental protection and sustainable development issues in Europe.
